Twenty20 - Stanford Series v Special Bets
The Series Top Batsman betting looks quite interesting and there are some decent prices about. From a personal point of view when betting on Twenty20 cricket i like to back a batsman who opens the innings. Firstly, It gives him potentially longer than anyone else at the crease. Secondly, with field restrictions in place for the opening 5 overs it gives him a better chance of finding the boundary fence. If one of the opening batsmen is still in by the 10th over he stands a fair chance of being the top scorer in that innings.
Each team will play 3 matches, Although as ive said elsewhere one 2 matches are of any meaning. So from a top batsmen point of view, you want to be on a player who will play in all 3 matches and importantly get a bat in all 3 matches. The Stanford Superstars xi is a little difficult to pick, Although im Sure Captain Chris Gayle will open in all 3 matches for them they may well use the 2 'friendlies' to tinker with the rest of the line-up, this might also be beneficial as it wont give England much of a game plan heading into the $20 million showdown. Either way it means i couldnt back with much faith any other player from the Stanford Superstars to be top scores other than Gayle who is too short at 7.5 in my eyes.
The same could happen with the England line ups, KP will play in all 3 matches probably batting at 3 or maybe 4 at the lowest and in the big game Bell and Prior should open but maybe not in the opening 2 games, so that rules out backing any England players. The Middlesex line up is flexible too, Strauss and Carter could well open with Malan Morgan Joyce and Henderson filling the middle order, But the order will depend on the state of the matches. Carter could be the surprise package for them, He is on loan from Warwickshire and if he plays will 'Slap' in from the start of the innings, Playing Carter might upset a few members of the squad with him being an outsider so his inclusion in certainly not a given. Carter can be backed overall at 19.0 to top bat but just to top bat for Middlesex he is 9.0 which looks a much better bet....if selected!!!!
The Trinidad & Tobago line up looks a little more 'set in stone' i would be very surprised if they didnt open in all 3 matches with Simmons and Perkins. Perkins was T & Ts Twenty20 star with the bat this year with over 170 runs in just 4 matches. one of these 2 got set and scored will in each of there 4 games this year and are both capable of big scores. They are both good prices to 'Top Bat' and im happy with these selections to do well.
Although this is an 'Outright' top scorer bet, only 25 players have been named, So should anyone not on the list top score then 2nd or lower will win this bet. The runners are: Pieterson, Gayle, Bell, Chanderpaul, Prior, Shah, Sarwan, Strauss, Joyce, Dowlin, Flintoff, Carter, Collingwood, Henderson, Perkins, Pollard, Patel, Godleman, Morgan, Joseph, Simmons, Fletcher, Ganga, Malan and Ramdin.
My Bets are
William Perkins 'Series' top batsman 3pts with Bluesq @21.0
Lendl Simmons 'Series' top batsman 3pts with Stan James @34.0
Neil Carter 'Middlesex' top batsmen 3pts with Paddypower @9.0
