Champions League - Liverpool v PSV Eindhoven
Reds have started their campaign much better than the last season. They are yet to be defeated in the Premier league and they are currently sitting in the 2nd place, right behind Chelsea due to a worse goal difference.Their champions league opening test also went well, as they won over Marseille away at home by 2:1.
I watched Liverpool on Saturday when they beat their city rivals Everton by 2-0. They were all over Everton, they had possesion in their legs and they were patiently waiting for a chance to score. Everton were defending for the most part of the game,they actually did it very well until the first goal, but overall they were contantly under pressure and looked really powerless.
PSV on the other hand, like I mentioned before somehow downgraded from the previous seasons. They lost the first game at home, where they were outplayed by Atletico in a game which finished as a 3:0 for the visitors. Their domestic form is also not as convincing as it used to be. Despite the fact they won 3/4 league games, they were far from being superb. They did trash Utrecht, but won only 1:0 against newcomers Volendam and beat Sparta by the same result and that proves something. Yeah, I know a win is a win, but the difference in quality of the Dutch teams in their league is huge and PSV used to trash teams like that in the past. Their only loss was away at Alkmaar, but it was kind of disappointing and surely not something to build your momentum on.
Benitez, who used to shuffle his first eleven a lot in the past, decided for a different approach this season and for now it is has paid off. Mascherano and Benayoun both return after injuries, so the only one missing is Degen.However with the squad like Benitez`, he is easily replacable and that means he can use his best players for the game. PSV on the other hand will miss important midfielder Affelay, who stayed at home due to injury.PSV should play better in this game, as they realized they must start taking some points if they want to hope for at least 3rd place in the group, but getting a result at Anfield is a very tough task, especially when Liverpool plays at its best. I am not sure if PSV will score here that is why I find a 2-0 score most likely result in this game!
I dont have time to write other previews but I`ll take this picks as well:
LDU Quito - Boca -> HW 6/10
Sporting - Basel -> HW -1 7/10
Anorthosis - Panathinaikos -> under 2,5
Best of luck!
