Eircom League - Finn Harps v St. Patricks
Just few hours ago it is confirmed that Finn Harps entered financial troubles. It means wages cut for 50%, but also potential point deduction and/or relegation. As we've all saw Cork City problems after same news, here as well i expect bad performances until team consolidates. I don't think any of players will now leave the club (transfer window is closed, but they can go out of UK) but team atmosphere won't be idle anymore and as Harps almost secured Premier League for next season any point deduction could cut their chances to stay up. I'll quote part of the club statement:
"...due to the present financial climate a number of adjustments have had to be made which have resulted in all staff at Finn Park having to take a adjustment in wages..."
Clubs in situation like that NEVER react good. Cork lost to Shamrock 0:3 in eg. I don't see Harps making good result either. With last win over Bray (1:0 away) they are seven points clear of relegation line and with six rounds till the end they will need to pick only few points to stay up. Game against St. Patricks comes in wrong time for them, and i see BIG value in odds of 1.93...
St. Patrick had packed schedule. Really really hard one, but they are still 2nd in league, with one game in hand and four points above 3rd Derry. Yesterday (Wednesday, 30th September) they were eliminated from UEFA Cup against strong Hertha Berlin. Away they've lost 0:2, but at home, in Ireland, Hertha should be satisfied with goalless draw. Team has good morale now, most of players are fit (Pats had long injury crisis), and they are still in, in most of Irish competitions. After game with Harps, they will have away match with Glentoran in Setanta Cup, they will have to win, and hope that Derry will do their job against Linfield. However, i don't think Pats will underestimate Harps, they usually win against them, and now most of the players are fit and coach shouldn't rest any of players. Only Dessie Byrne is injury doubt.
Pats play great defense, they are solid in front and no matter that they've played "the biggest game in the history of the club" just few days before this clash, they should be able to win against Harps. Harps have injury problems since the beginning of the season, there are always at least three players out from the team, and now this financial problems should also have impact here. I think that neither of this two will have big motivation here, it's hard to play just for sake of playing, knowing that you won't be adequately paid. Pats have more quality among their ranks, and great tradition against Harps team, i think this shock for Harps players will be big and that Pats will take at least minimal win.
I'm going this high only because of odds that should be 1.80 realistically (in idle situation for both teams), and with this Harps news, probably 1.70 or lower. I expect Pats win
