League cup - St. Patricks v Derry City
Saint Patrick's Athletic vs. Sporting Fingal
This is a replay game of the quarterfinals of the Irish cup between St. Patricks and Sporting Fingal. The first game was trully great as both teams held the lead once but in the end it ended with a highscoring draw (3:3).
Pats have played many game this season, as they participating in 4 different competition, including UEFA cup. Despite the fact they play a 2nd leg game against Hertha Berlin in a couple of days, this cup is a priority at the moment.
Playing so many games takes its toll and coach will miss a few players in this game.Central defender Jason Gavin and left winger Derek O’Brien as the pair are cup-tied, while Stephen Paisley, John Murphy, David Partridge and Bobby Ryan are injured. However Damien Lynch should should return.
Sporting are still in contention to get a promotion to premier league, however they are no less than 8 points behind the leaders from Dundalk. It will be a tough task to axhive that, especially as their form is somewhat hot-cold, mostly due to injuries or suspensions.
Visitors are without a key quartet for the game and that is a big blow for them. Top scorer Robbie Doyle is suspended, centre-half Barry Ferguson is cup-tied ,while goalkeeper Brendan Clarke and left-back John Frost are both unavailable due to the terms of their loan agreement, as they were signed from the Saints.
Both teams are missing some important players, but hosts have much wider squad to choose from not to mention better players so we can take this as advantage for the hosts. Playing at home will be another advantage and as soon as visitors openup a bit they will punish them. I expect both teams to score, but visitors should have a very hard time upfront, especially without their top scorer Doyle. I expect St. Patricks to win this one...3-1 is my call! Good luck!
