Eredivisie - Feyenoord v Ajax Amsterdam
This fixture is known in Holland as the big classic between Feyenoord and Ajax. I don’t think I have to explain that this is a major derby in Holland for as long as I can remember and that football rivalry between the two is at a level at its own. Different aspects come in to play when this match is on the schedule.
Ajax is performing better and better at the moment. The new coach Marco van Basten still has a lot to prove for me after the poor performances in the pre-season friendly fixtures and the defeat at Willem II. However this is Ajax and they managed to win their 2nd match easily by 1-0 against Roda. Easy cause they created a lot of chances to win by a bigger margin, butt the players were not sharp enough. Especially Top-Striker K.J Huntelaar who had a lot of chances. Huntelaar is Ajax’s most valuable player in the squad as he can decide games. The club is lucky that he stayed at Ajax cause there were many big teams who had big interest in him.
As expected Huntelaar and the rest of Ajax showed in their mid-week Ueafa-Cup fixture that they are still a big European contender. They settled a positive score 1-4 in Belgrado and have prospects in finally doing good things in European Leagues. At the moment Ajax is highly motivated and prepare for tomorrows clash in Rotterdam. They do have some injury worries. Most important to that is the missing of Gabri, a key player in my eyes for Ajax as he is one of the older players and his qualities in midfield will be missed when Ajax isn’t in possession of the ball.
Feyenoord once again looks to struggle a lot this season . Their results in the preseason fixtures, the super-cup match loss against PSV and the bad start of the league shows how poor they are. Yes they managed to win their last league fixture against Volendam by 5-0, a score witch actually doesn’t reflect how they played on the field. Plus the fact that they lost to Kalmar on home-ground in their mid-week Uefa-Cup fixture. Feyenoord have the squad and support to do great things butt they just cant pull it off. They have yet another new coach and yet more new prominent players added to their squad, butt if the spirit is lost and the injuries list of key players is this big at the moment I don’t think they are ready for Europe or the the Dutch title. Positive news is that Makaay is back from injury and will form the attack with Tomasson.
At first I wanted to go for save the Ajax DNB bet, butt after today’s news that key-player vanBronckhorst is probably out for Feyenoord, we can risk our money on the away Ajax win. This match could go either way in worst case scenarios such as red cards and referee influence etc, butt we cant predict this. Thus history of the last 10 fixtures shows us that Ajax is the better team, and also the current form is in favor of Amsterdam.
Squad info:
Ajax: Gabri, Aissati, Donald and Van der Heijden are OUT!
Feyenoord: van Bronckhorst (doubt), Slory, El Ahmadi, Vlaar, Landzaat, De Guzman, Vincken and Bruins (doubt) are OUT!
