Champions League - Werder Bremen v Anorthosis

Werder Bremen starts this year’s Champions League campaign playing against Cypriot champions Anorthosis Famagusta in the first round. Werder, although had big expectations for Champions League in previous years, always they had not so good outcome. Twice were eliminated in the group stage and once with huge mistake of their goalkeeper gave Juventis an advantage into the next round. They are still having a decent team, despite the fact that they lost Borowski to Bayern Munich.

In last four seasons, Werder Bremen lost their starting match in the group stages and Schaaf desperately wants good start for his team and for that goal he has full team to choose from.

Anorthosis will have their debut in the strongest football competition in the world and they will not have an easy task at all. Bremen is always tough place to take points and knowing that their opponent is eager to take all three points does not make the job easier for away team. For this match they will be without Skopelitis and Dobrasinovic, and Dellas and Savio are having small injuries, but they will be ready for playing.

Werder is playing on Saturday against Bayern Munich, big Bundesliga derby and I think that they will try to decide this match as soon as possible. Anorthosis will be defensive oriented, but I believe that they are not strong enough to keep their net untouched for 45 minutes. I believe that Werder is more than capable of taking the three points in the first half of this match.
