Carnegie League - Athlone Town v Dundalk FC

Before their last draw away with Wexford (0:0), Athlone picked last point on 1st August, more then a month ago. Since then, they've lost three games, two in championship, one in FAI Cup against Monaghan, Limerick and Galway. Except Galway who is Premier League side, Mons and Lims are mid-table teams, nothing special, and Athlone still managed to lose to them with same result - 0:3. Rather high. Since then, yes, they managed to take a point in Wexford playing for last half an hour with 10 men, but Wexford is weak team, and if you remember my analysis a week ago, i backed Athlone +0,25. It payed, but now, i think Athlone will continue with their bad results. They have no special quality, and will miss number of players: attacker Dave O'Dowd and defenders Jim Sheridan and Niall Scullion are out with injuries, Jonathan Mernagh is suspended, while Rossiter and Hope are once again questionable. For a small squad like Athlone's it's major loss.

Dundalk won't be without their problems either. Three attackers, Mulvenna, Martin and Farrell, are out, but for them more important is return of their playmaker Flanagan and midfielder Derek Doyle. They will be also very motivated after their recent loss to Limerick which ended their eight games unbeaten run in championship. Now their difference to 2nd place Waterford is only two points, while Shels and Sporting are five points away. Dundalk needs a win today, and i think they'll got it. Athlone is team that they "like", team that they beaten eight times in a row, and team that will have big problems with squad today. Quality, tradition and team news favor Dundalk and i think we'll see Dundalk win...
