Kontinental League - Atlant Mytishchi v Vityaz Chekhov
Atlant is ex-Khimik Moskovska Oblast, strong team, with really strong pre-season. In fact, they had strongest pre-season of all KHL teams, winning 12 of 12 games (some in OT/SO). Team looks strong as usual, with good goalie Emery (came from Ottawa Senators), but in first match versus Spartak only attack worked. Game ended with 6:5 win of Moscow team after they came back from two goals deficit. Emery in that opening game was really really bad. But, maybe it isn't only goalie fault as team took 13 penalties which is rather high. Also seven of that 13 goals were scored in PP.
Vityaz is much weaker team here. They were regulary beaten in pre-season, and it isn't big surprise as team isn't much strengthen. New goalie Patzold from San Jose Sharks, few average defenders and two new Canadians in attack - Simon and Spylo. Along with Verot and Perrot it's almost Canadian colony. If i had to rate Vityaz team i would use quote that i read in one Russian article "team that is made first for the show, then for the results...". I totally agree, Vityaz team looks violent, they are team which will have many penalty minutes and lots of fights which means lots of PP and it could end with many goals.
Although Atlant didn't had many overs in pre-season, they played game with lots of goals in first round. They are strong in PP and they won't avoid physical game if Vityaz starts it. And i think they will. Vityaz, in their first game vs MVD (4:5 SO loss) had 9x2 penalties plus three game misconducts (25 min penalties). There were numerous fights and lots of PP. Games like that usually end with high numbers and i think this scenario might repeat today as well.
