Premiership - Chelsea v Tottenham
This is of course a load of old tosh !!!
Spurs have been shocking this season with defeats to Boro away and Sunderland at home, 2 teams who, with respect to Southgate and Keane, you would not be expecting to be fighting out for the european slots. In my opinion, the main reason for this is Berbatov. His body language on and off the pitch has been such, that it must be affecting his team mates, and if you beleive what you read in the paper, then it is much worse than the body language he is portraying.
Spurs HAVE signed some very good players, notably Bentley, Dos Santos and Gomes, and couple that with the form Darren Bent has been showing in pre season, and you wonder why Spurs have started so poorly. Well, today is the last day of the transfer window ( even though they are extending it until tomorrow ) and even though it looks liek they have signed a replacement for Berba in the shape of Russian ace Pavlyuchenko, it will take a few days to sort out Dimi going up to Manchester, and anyway the deal isn't done yet.
When Dimi goes, and the new sigings bed in, Spurs will be a force to be reckoned with, however, at the moment, they are rooted to the bottom of the league, and are whipping boys ready to be whipped again.
Chelsea have started off very brightly. The 4-0 thumping of Portsmouth on opening day shot a warning across the bows of all the other teams in the league to what a potent attacking force we can be even without Drogba.
Obviously it all nearly came tumbling down last week with a poor performance against Wigan, and I do worry that our midfield is simply over crowded with stars, a bizarre statement, but I will try and explain.
Lamps, Deco, Ballack, Essien and Joe Cole i think would walk into any team in the premiership and apart from Steve Gerrard and Ronaldo, would be their star player. The fact that I have mentioned 5 players up there means we have a problem. All 5 are world class, and all 5 are superstars in their own right, however they do sometimes seem to "get in the way" of one another, as witnessed last week at the JJB when Deco, Ballack and Lampard were often so close to one another, they couldn't pass the ball properly.
I am also ashamed to say that it is the same when England play Lamps and Gerrard together as well. They often negate each other out of the game, and you often find one of them playing out of position and having a poor game. On a side note it will be interesting to see if my theory is correct in the next 2 england games when Gerrard is not playing. I think Lampards performance will increas dramatically.
The good thing about today is that there is doubts over Ballack and Essien, and that could ensure that some changes are made, hopefully with the introduction of Malouda on the left, as I think he is a very good player, but woefully underused.
In essence, Chelsea v Spurs always ends up with a home win. We have score more points, and more goals against the spuds than any other team in the top flight.
Another 3 points for the mighty blues today, another defeat for spurs, and another winning tip.
