MLB - Houston Astros v St. Louis Cardinals
Saturday, 8/30/2008 7:05 PM BRADEN LOOPER (R) vs. BRIAN MOEHLER (R)
Yesterday Randy Wolf was phenomenal and the Astros defeated the Cardinals by 3-2 in a game where Kyle Lohse was great too. For today I expect the same to happen with the pitchers of today's game. The Cardinals will send Braden Looper (12-10, 3.94 ERA), who has been one of the most consistent pitchers on the league lately. He had 2.14 ERA and 0.905 WHIP and if we look to the number of runs he has allowed, numbers don't lie: 3-1-2-2-2-2-1! Amazing! Curiously against the Astros, Looper comes from consecutive non quality starts, but his last outing against Houston was in June and not recently, where he has been amazing.
On the other side, the Astros will send Brian Moehler (9-5, 3.99 ERA), who will be looking for a bounce back after his last outing against the Mets, where he allowed 4 runs in 5 innings, while the Astros losing the game by 1-9. Moehler has been consistent and naturally, he has enough material to bounce back today. He is also 6-1 Under on his last 7 starts against a team with a winning record. Besides that, he is 3-0 and 3.27 ERA on his career against the Cardinals.
I expect a low scoring game today, exactly what happened yesterday. The reason for that is the pitchers, as Moehler is 11-2 Under as an underdog of +100 or higher this season and the Astros lately have been a team of unders, as they are 5-0 Under on their last 5 home games. So, I consider the under as a solid bet in this game.
