ATP - Gilles Simon v Martin Del Potro
30 August 2008

Yes, I'm going against someone who has won his last 21 matches. Why? He's clearly tired and not performing in here as well as he did on his last four tournaments, where he won all of them. Del Potro is clearly improving and he has become one of the best hard hitters of the circuit. The main problem for him in here is that he has been committing a lot of errors in this tournament and he is going to face a wall, who returns everything and makes his opponents go nuts because of that.
Gilles Simon is the best "pusher" of the circuit, as he does nothing but returning balls to the other side of the court, while expecting for errors from his opponents. Well, this clearly works and Federer, Tursunov, Querrey, Cilic, Soderling and Acasuso were some of his victims on this Summer. Simon is also in a great run, being 14-3 on the Summer hardcourt season, so he has nothing to fear in this match, not even Del Potro winning streak of 21 matches.
Del Potro clearly seems to be tired (lots of errors and small mental breakdowns on his matches this week) and Simon is the player indicated to cause him a lot of problems. As Del Potro is extremely talented and after all, he is 21-0 on his last 21 matches, I decided not to take Simon on the moneyline, but only on the spread, to secure a good win, instead of facing potentially an heartbreak loss.

What makes a bet ?

I generally like [...]
