WTA - Sugiyama v Olga Govortsova

Ai Sugiyama is not just the player with most consecutive Grand Slams presences in the tennis history. She is also still really good at the game. The Japanese is still one of the most intelligent and consistent players in the circuit, with her amazing movement on court and footwork helping her in defeating youngsters who unsuccessfully try to overpower her. She had a tough draw in the first round against the talented Klepac, but she passed this test and now she has another tough task, but once again it's clearly doable. She will now face Olga Govortsova, who defeated her at Roland Garros, but the Belorussian isn't in great form nowadays, as she is just 5-8 since the grass season. Govortsova is 20 years old inconsistent player, who is also known for her problems to maintain leads and that's not good news for her, when she will face one of the most experienced and intelligent players in the world. Govortsova makes poor decisions on court and she will get tired on the long baseline rallies and she'll try to hit winners from anywhere in the court, which could be a reasonable decision if she was in great form and very confident on her court, which she isn't, so she will end up committing a lot of errors, as Sugiyama will also make her hit an extra shot, which raises the chances of Govortsova commit even more errors in this match.

Govortsova has the better serve of the two, but Sugiyama is clearly the better returner and that will take away Govortsova's serving edge in here. Sugiyama is known for her clever game, knowing when to go to the net for example, while Govortsova just has two tactics: hit the ball very hard or hit the ball even harder. As she isn't in great form, she will miss most of those and Sugiyama will take advantage of those errors to win the match.
