WTA - Flavia Penneta v Shuai Peng

Interesting battle in here, between two good players who have never done well in this tournament before. Pennetta had a little struggle in the first set of the first round against the super-talented Vogele, but then she had no problems in winning the second and third sets by 6-2. The Italian player is having an amazing season and the Summer hardcourt season is being no exception, as she reached the final in Los Angeles, then a couple of weak performances could have made her lost some of her confidence, but after a good win in the first round, she is back on track and she must be motivated to finally pass the second round here in the US Open, which is the only Grand Slam where she has never reached the third round. She has a fantastic consistence on the baseline and it's almost impossible to over-power her, as she is a fantastic mover on court.

Shuai Peng has been making some kind of a run, however her 6-2 6-2 loss to Alize Cornet in the Olympics show how much she struggles against consistent players, who are capable to construct the point by opening the angels and not committing a lot of errors. Peng isn't known for her consistence, but more for her talent, which is huge, but when she faces players like Pennetta, who don't allow her to hit the ball like she wants to, she ends up destroying herself with multiple errors. This is the main reason why Pennetta is 3-0 against her, including a 1-6 6-3 6-4 win in the first round of the US Open last season.

Pennetta is a Top 20 player and she seems to be consistent enough to stay there for a long time. Peng is the huge talent, which never made her breakthrough and she lacks patience and consistence in the back of the court to compete with no fear against someone as consistent as Pennetta.
