NPC Rugby Union NZ - Wellington v Bay Of Plenty
The Lions after a lacklustre first half last week clicked into gear and kicked away to win well against the Stags but thats the Lions for you, they can look great or avergae in the matter of seconds and they have always been like that,Weepu moves to standoff and although there are many players in this side who could go well for me the level at which Weepu is playing will eventually be the deciding factor in this match and as he plays for the Lions I have to go that way,but he is the key for them and this game will not be as easy as some might think.
The Bay won again last week in what you would have to say was a great pressure performance up against Northland with a packed house baying for Bay of Plenty Blood and are unbeaten this season to date, this weekend they face off against the Lions looking to take outright leader status on the Comp board and although it's a big stretch they are a very real chance of they continuie to play the direct style they have been, the Bay are playing a very well structured game and all the players are excelling at it,last season the Magpies knocked off Wellington and the bay fell short by 3 points and this team has improved at least 50% on what they were last season,so I think this is the game of the round and should be watched as I bet you it will be a good game.
Like I said the Lions beat the bay last season 13-16.
These two sides so far have been the best in the comp and I think this spread is way to much on the Steamers, they have looked solid and have come through every game looking very composed and I think that they will be ready for the Challenge that they are about to face nothing about their play this season has made me think other wise, while it can be said that if the Lions click even for 20mins the game could be well gone, but this BOP side is looking very good and seem to be enjoying playing with each other,I've lived in the Bay and before the season started my Bros down there were telling me this season they could be good and i've got to say I was not really thinking it but they sure are playing good so far, really good.
The Lions have won their last 4 and have scored 15o and let in only 47,at Home in Wellington the Lions have scored 93 and allowed only 13!!! The Steamers have won their last 4 games inbcluding 2 away, they have scored 23 and allowed only 17,in fact those points away from home are all they have let in the Bay have an amsing record of only allowing 17 points in 4 games while scoring 51.
I reckon this game will be fantastic and well worth the watch if you can,i think the Lions will win in the end but i also think the Bay are well capable of making this match more than intresting and an upset although unlikely could be on the cards..take the Bay with this 15 point start...Good Luck.
