Super Lig - Antalya v Besiktas

New promoted Antalya is hosting Besiktas who is one of the biggest champion nominate of Turkish Super League. Antalya did not spend a lot of money for the new season. Old Galatasaray player from Gaziantep Volkan Arslan, Joseph from Karten, Omer and Abdullah from Diyarbakir joined to Antalya. The most interesting news from Antalya was the resign of Hikmet Karaman. This will be a challenge for the host team. As far as I know he declared that Antalya would relegate if the management would not make the necessary transfers. And of course the boss did not enjoy him after he talked to media and fired him. This is a very bad timing as now the new coach should establish his own tactics and ways to the squad. In the prep matches Antalya got a draw from Ankaragucu (1-1) and won against Istanbul Buyuksehir (2-1) which are both Turkish S. L. teams.

The visitors (Besiktas) did many transfers as they do before ever new season. But this time they have chosen the new joiners preciously and all of those new players were bought according to the needs of squad. Let me tell you something here regarding the Turkish S.L. champions and their common part: it is very rare that in the history of Turkish S. L. a champ team has mostly Turkish defenders. And Besiktas in last 4 years established their defense with majorly Turkish players. Even Turkish National team had challenges of having a good defense, Besiktas did not reinforce its squad with foreign defenders. But not this season, as they realized it was one of the biggest reason of their failures in the near past. Sivok who was brought from Udinese as I watched in UEFA cup match is a confident player. And also new defender Zapotoniciky who has high domination on high balls. These 2 new defenders will be a cure for Besiktas. Tello mounted to the left and Ibrahim Toraman to the right. Serdar Kurtulus in middle, Ugur Inceman at the left wing, and Aydin at right. Additional to them Holosko, Delgado, and Bobo…this is a very good team.

Besiktas’s other advantage is opening the season early due to the UEFA cup match. I believe they will beat Antalya who has a challenge of not being well prepared and having a new coach who needs time to build up his team to be successful. Good luck.
