MLB - San Francisco Giants v Florida Marlins
19 August 2008

The Marlins are losing contact with the Mets and the Phillies in the fight for the NL East and the main reason for that is they've lost 7 of their last 10 games. Today the team will begin a series against the Giants and today they will use their ace pitcher Ricky Nolasco (11-7, 3.88 ERA), who has been suffering from the lack of run support of the team. The truth is that he has just won one decision for his team on his last 7 outings, however Nolasco hasn't been at his real level recently and the main example of that was his last outing against the Cardinals, where even though he had just allowed 2 runs, the truth is that he allowed 10 hits and crossed the barrier of the 100 pitchers after 6 innings.
On the other side, the Giants will send Kevin Correia (2-6, 5.12 ERA), who has been in good form recently with 2.84 ERA on his last 3 outings and he is already coming back for his 4th game in a row where he hasn't allowed double digit hits. In his last two starts, he has just allowed 5 runs in 12 innings against the Astros and the Dodgers, who are two of the hottest teams in the league right now.
I like the Giants in this game, as they are a big home dog and let's not forget that the Giants are coming to this game with momentum, as they have won 3 of their last 4 games against the Braves, while batting .385, .389, .290 and .212. On the other side, the Marlins are in a slump and they are coming from four games in a row, where they haven't been capable of even reaching .200 of efficiency and even though they had a day off to rest, the team is 1-4 in their last 5 games following an off day. I'm going for the home dog in this game.

What makes a bet ?
I’ve often wondered how other guys decide whether to bet or not. I know personally that there are no strict adhereances that I abide by ( there should be……but there isn’t), and I just wondered how you guys out there make a bet, and what makes you bet the amount that you do.
I generally like [...]
