MLB - St. Louis Cardinals v Pittsburgh Pirates
19 August 2008

I have to confess that I love the spot of the Cardinals in here, as the two teams are coming with really different emotional states to this game. Basically we are talking about a team, which is fighting for a postseason spot and which is coming from a defeat where they were the favorites. They will now play against a team, which is fighting for nothing right now and which is coming from a great win over a power club, so in this case, I expect a letdown from the Pirates and a bounce back from the Cards.
The Cardinals will send Braden Looper (11-9, 4.07 ERA), who has been very consistent recently and managing to get good wins. To prove that, we just need to check his sequence of runs allowed: 2-2-2-2-1! Impressive! He has 2.14 ERA and 0.857 WHIP on his last 3 outings and always facing teams with positive records: Marlins, Cubs and Phillies.
On the other side, the Pirates will use Ian Snell, who hasn't been managed to get a quality start from a long time. The truth is that the Pirates have lost in the last 3 outings with Snell starting and he had 5.06 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in those three outings. Snell has been terrible on the road with 1-6 and 7.83 ERA this season and he has faced the Cardinals four times this season and he has never managed to get a quality start, allowing 4-6-5-4 runs.
I really like the Cardinals in here. Snell hasn't been capable of stopping the offense of the Cardinals this season and St Louis uses to be capable of taking advantage of their days of rest, as they are 13-3 in their last 16 games following an off day. I expect a bounce back from the home team today, as the Cardinals are 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss and 15-4 against the run line after a loss by 4 runs or more this season! Take St Louis RL in here.

What makes a bet ?
I’ve often wondered how other guys decide whether to bet or not. I know personally that there are no strict adhereances that I abide by ( there should be……but there isn’t), and I just wondered how you guys out there make a bet, and what makes you bet the amount that you do.
I generally like [...]
