ATP - Thomaz Belluci v Arnaud Clement
Monday, 8/18/2008 2:30PM THOMAZ BELLUCCI (BRA) vs. ARNAUD CLEMENT (FRA)
This match will be very interesting to see. This would always be a good match to watch, but there is something that makes this match be even more interesting. The reason for that is that Clement was playing doubles in Beijing last Saturday afternoon and two days after that, he is playing in the United States, in the other side for the world! Clement isn't exactly a young player (30 years old) and this spot would be a nightmare for any kind of player! But as this tournament has to end Saturday, the organization had no other option than putting his match on today's card.
But is this enough for me to fade Clement in here? No. If Clement was playing against a nobody, I wouldn't fade him in here. But he will face Thomaz Bellucci, who is a really talented player and even though he is South American, he has showed that he is a capable player on fast surfaces. Bellucci was also in Beijing, but he lost in the first round (exactly one week ago), so he had much more time to rest and to come to the United States than Clement. The Brazilian player is 0-4 on hardcourt this season, but all four losses were against capable players (Falla, Verdasco, Karlovic, Hrbaty), so it's not like he is playing badly. He has simply having bad luck with the draws, as even Hrbaty has resurged and took Blake to a third set in Beijing.
Bellucci has a big serve and that gives him immediately a great edge for today's match, as the pressure on holding serve will be on a tired Clement. The French isn't exactly a role model of consistency and in this kind of spot, I don't think he will be strong enough to fight for the win today. Also if the match gets into the 3rd set, Bellucci is 10 years younger than Clement and he should also be able to handle better the high temperatures today. Bellucci has a lot of value in here. Take him.
Pick: 3 units (Regular Play) on Thomaz Bellucci ML @2.37 on Bet365
