Portuguese League Cup - Porto v Sporting Lisbon
On one side we have the National Champion, Porto, that won the championship in a very easy way.
Already the Sporting, last season was not able to keep pace with Porto, but could to leave positive references in decisives games of eliminatories, and the Cup of Portugal, in Calsberg Cup (where it lost in the final for the Vit. Setubal in major penalties ) and also in the Champions League, where even without having pass the groups, has good views against Manchester United and Roma, what was regarded by much of the criticism as the strongest group of Stage 1 (Manchester, Rome, Sporting and Dinamo Kiev).
Porto lost one that was in my opinion with Lucho the "engine" of the team last season: Paulo Assunçao, which was sold to the Atl. Madrid. With Quaresma out due to technical option, expect something different from a Porto in which accustomed to last season.
The Sporting kept the same basis, and tightened up a little in each sector. The arrival of Caneira for the defense, and Rochemback in the middle field must have been the main innovations to complete a working group that was already in quality.
The permanence of Joao Moutinho so far is also a great news for Paulo Bento, who along with Miguel Veloso (without the ideal pace of play), and Rochemback could form a strong middle field.
The Sporting for the game today will not use Vukcevic, who is not yet in the best physical condition.
Usually at the beginning of the season the teams are not yet at its best level, and present themselves without the pace of game that coachs want, so I believe the odds to win the Sporting must have some value, since as usual in games of eliminatory, the equilibrium prevails over the 90 minutes.
Porto is a team of high quality, and with dangerous players as Lucho and Lisandro, so I think it should be a difficult game for both teams, but Paulo Bento will continue with its good performance against the Porto of Jesualdo Ferreira as well as in games of this genre.
