Jupiler League - Emmen v Helmond

Isaiah (Greece)

Emmen didn't reached the playoffs during the last season only for some points and decided to improve their squad. The season started well for them last friday, taking all three points away to Sittard as predicted. This season, they spent a lot, and probably they made the best transfers to the division. Rogier Krohne came from Groningen, very important addition to their defensive line is Joos Valgaeren from Brugge, another strong defender Niek Ripson from TOP Oss, experienced Sieme Zijm (Excelsior) to cover the left side, a promised midfielder, Jesse Schotman came from Go Ahead Eagles, and the latest addition is international Slovenian (U21) striker Tim Matavz (already scored the winning late goal last friday away to Sittard). Most of the players who departed gone to amateur teams, except Bas Dost (Heracles), Frank Broers (Go Ahead) and Edgar Bernhardt who signed for VfL Osnabruck. All in all, quality players came, non important units left, so we can say that they are strengthen enough. Wolters and de Vries are still out for Emmen (they didn't played against Sittard too).
Helmond started the season with an unexpected defeat at home against AGOVV (1:2). Everything shows that they can't repeat the same succesfull last season where they finished 7th and participated at playoffs. Main reason should be that they lost some important players during summer, and didn't came such good replacements. Forward Jordan Remacle signed for RKC, and two of their most important players last season, midfields Nieuwenburg and Dinteren left the team. To the bright side, midfielder Daniel Guijo-Velasco who came from Excelsior is a very good addition, but nothing more was done to improve the squad, except the 19 years old Brazilian Andrade from Sao Paolo who will need time to play 100%. The image Helmond shown against AGOVV was pathetic as the papers wrote, with little number of chances made to score. Helmond didn't impressed to their preparation period also with some very mediocre results (KSVK United 0-0, Gemert 1-2, Venlo 1-3, Sheffield 1-4). No injury news yet.
I am going for Emmen victory to the first game of the season in front of their fans, They look better at all lines.
