MLB - LA Dodgers v Philadelphia Phillies
12 August 2008

Philadelphia (64-54) at LA Dodgers (59-59)
Tuesday, 8/12/2008 10:10 PM COLE HAMELS (L) vs. CLAYTON KERSHAW (L)
The Dodgers managed to beat the Phllies by 8-6 in the first game of the series, where the bullpen of the Dodgers even though they couldn’t finish the game once again with tranquility, they still won, fortunately for me as I backed them yesterday.
Today the Dodgers will send Clayton Kershaw (2-3, 3.71 ERA), who is 2.81 ERA at home, even though he has just a record of 1-2. Kershaw has been amazing lately, recovering from a bad outing against the Rockies to make 3 quality starts in a row, where he had just 0.47 ERA and 0.895 WHIP.
On the other side, the Phillies will send Cole Hamels, who is in a sequence of 6 games where he can’t win a decision. This sequence has been not only becausr of the lack of run support of his team mates, but also Hamels hasn’t been consistent lately, as in his last 3 outings, he is 5.62 ERA and 0-2 and I can say that he is currently on a slump.
Even though Hamels is more experience and be 4-2 on the road, I think the fact that the Dodgers are home dogs put them immediately as a value bet. The last 3 outings of Hamels were against Florida, St Louis and Atlanta and just like I’ve said it before, they weren’t quality starts and that’s a worry, as these three teams don’t use to be very strong vs LHP like Hamels. But unlike these three teams, the Dodgers have a great team vs LHP with 5.1 runs/game (3.8 runs/game vs RHP) and the truth is that they are 6-1 in their last 7 home games vs LHP. The umpire for this game is 17-10 in favor of the home team and that’s motives enough for be to back the Dodgers in here.

What makes a bet ?
I’ve often wondered how other guys decide whether to bet or not. I know personally that there are no strict adhereances that I abide by ( there should be……but there isn’t), and I just wondered how you guys out there make a bet, and what makes you bet the amount that you do.
I generally like [...]
