MLB - Chicago White Sox v Detroit Tigers
Tuesday, 8/5/2008 8:11 PM NATE ROBERTSON (L) vs. GAVIN FLOYD (R)
The White Sox begins today a series against the Tigers, in a bad moment for them, as they are 2-4 on their last 6 games, Last Sunday, they finished a divisional series against the Royals with a 3-14 loss, in a match with lots of problems between players. Naturally the team will come fired up for this game, trying to bounce back and for that, they will send Gavin Floyd (11-6, 3.43 ERA), who has been great at home with 7-2, 2.49 ERA and 0.987 WHIP. Also on his last two outings, even with the team not playing well, he was consistent, allowing just 5 runs and 14 hits in 14 innings. Actually one of the wins conquered by the White Sox in this span of 6 games was with him as SP.
On the other side, the Tigers will send Nate Robertson (6-8, 6.06 ERA), who hasn't been great lately. Robertson is just 14.30 ERA and 2.56 WHIP on his last 3 outings and if we look to his sequence of runs allowed, we see that he is currently in a slump: 8-3-7-5. The Tigers are 1-8 on his last 9 starts as a road underdog of +110 to +150 for some reason.
This bad form of Robertson should be explored by the White Sox, as they are 14-5 vs LHP this season and 7-0 in their last 7 home games vs LHP. Besides that, both teams had a game to rest and this uses to be explored well by the White Sox, as they are 7-0 in their last 7 games following an off day.
Floyd has already faced the Tigers this season and the team won all 3 games with Floyd playing very well, allowing just 7 runs in 20 innings. The team is 6-1 in Floyd's last 7 starts following a Quality Start in his last appearance, which shows his consistence. With all these facts, I'm taking the White Sox RL, as I believe their bounce back today will be huge. Also in my research, I've found 3 great trends to back my ideas:
CHI WHITE SOX are 23-12 against the run line vs. left-handed starters this season.
CHI WHITE SOX are 31-20 against the run line in home games this season.
FLOYD is 9-2 against the run line vs. division opponents this season. (Team's Record)
Take the White Sox RL in here.
MLB PREVIEW:
Boston (64-49) at Kansas City (53-60)
Tuesday, 8/5/2008 8:10 PM JOSH BECKETT (R) vs. BRIAN BANNISTER (R)
How many times have you seen Josh Beckett losing 4 games in a row? Don't try to remember, as it has never happened and the pressure on him tonight is going to be huge, so huge that the Red Sox are just -165 to win in here.
Yesterday Boston lost by 3-4 against the Royals and today they will send Beckett to bounce back. However, Beckett is coming from a terrible performance against the Angels, where he allowed 8 runs and 11 hits in 5 innings, so we all expect a bounce back from him today.
However, the Royals are playing very well lately, having won their previous two series against the A's and the White Sox and yesterday they confirmed their good moment. Today they will send Bannister (7-9, 5.33 ERA), who hasn't been great recently, but whose numbers at home are better: 5-4 and 3.56 ERA.
Today Boston has everything to comeback to the wins, however the Royals are in a good moment and Boston seems to be too heavy chalk for a game which won't be easy for them.
