Club Friendly - Levski Sofia v Werder Bremen
I rarely made bets on friendlies but now knowing how impresive was Werder lately i made an exception. The following info's are taken from their official website:
“We want to use our appearance in Sofia to improve the popularity of Bundesliga football in Bulgaria,” explained general manager Klaus Allofs before the side headed off for their brief visit to the Bulgarian capital, which builds part of an attractive target group in eastern Europe. Ten nations, and also smaller provinces, will broadcast the match live. Not only fans in Germany will be able to watch the tie - live on DSF - but also football supporters in Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Montenegro will get a chance to see the Green-Whites in action in Sofia.
It may not be a competitive game but Werder Bremen know that the side from Sofia will be no push-over. Last season, trainer Velislav Vutzov’s side finished second in the ‘A-Grupa’, Bulgaria’s top flight, behind local rivals ZSKA Sofia. Prior to that, the Blue-Whites celebrated back-to-back championship wins and became Bulgaria’s most successful side since the turn of the century with ten title wins (five league championships, four cup wins and two Super Cup successes).
“We’ll get to see if our batteries are fully recharged after the Trabzonspor match,” remarked Schaaf, and added “I think we’ll present ourselves better on Tuesday.” The plan is naturally to put in a perfect dress rehearsal ahead of this Saturday’s, 09.08.2008 at 3:30pm, first competitive hurdle in the DFB Cup against Eintracht Nordhorn. “We’ve been working towards this game since our first day of training,” emphasised Schaaf.
During Monday’s training session, the Werder coach was again without Martin Harnik, who slightly twisted his knee in the game against FC St. Gallen. Per Mertesacker is currently going through a rehabilitation programme in Donaustauf following his successful knee operation whilst Diego (Brazil) and Dusko Tosic (Serbia) are both away on duty with their national teams preparing for the Olympic football tournament which starts on Saturday, 08.08.2008.
The following 18 man squad will make the trip to Sofia:
Tim Wiese, Christian Vander – Sebastian Boenisch, Petri Pasanen, Naldo, Frank Baumann, Jurica Vranjes, Clemens Fritz, Markus Rosenberg, Mesut Özil, Aaron Hunt, Sebastian Prödl, Said Husejinovic, Boubacar Sanogo, Daniel Jensen, Torsten Frings, Hugo Almeida, Peter Niemeyer
