MLB - Chicago Cubs v Houston Astros
4 August 2008

Houston (53-57) at Chi. Cubs (67-45) Monday, 8/4/2008 7:05 PM BRIAN MOEHLER (R) vs. RYAN DEMPSTER (R)
The Astros completed yesterday a nice sweep against the “previous hottest team” Mets and they have now an interesting series against the Cubs.
The Cubs will send today to the mound Ryan Dempster 2.90 ERA 12-4. I have to say that Dempster is killing the opponents right now, this guy in home games is “just” 10-1 and 2.72 ERA but lately he increased even more his game, in the last 3 games he is with the microscope numbers of 0.86 ERA 1.0 WHIP and 2-0, even more important is that 2 of the 3 games were road games where Dempster had some problems this season. Today Dempster look to keep up the excellence of his game.
Meanwhile the Astros turn to Bryan Moehler 4.23 ERA 6-4. Moehler had a bad outing against the Reds to immediately bounce back in the next game against the Reds. He has been consistent lately as the Astros are 8-2 Under in their last 10 games with Moehler in the mound. This season he already faced the Cubs twice and in both games he was impressive allowing only 4 runs in 12 innings.
For today I expect both pitchers made quality starts, Dempster already started against the Astros this season and he went scoreless in 8 innings, the Under is 7-1 in Dempsters last 8 home starts. This season 7 of 9 games in this series have gone Under the Total and in fact I also found 3 interesting trends for the Under involving the Astros: Under is 10-2 in Astros last 12 games as a road underdog of +151 to +200; Under is 7-0 in Moehlers last 7 starts during game 1 of a series; Under is 13-3-1 in Moehlers last 17 starts overall.
Take the under in this game.

What makes a bet ?
I’ve often wondered how other guys decide whether to bet or not. I know personally that there are no strict adhereances that I abide by ( there should be……but there isn’t), and I just wondered how you guys out there make a bet, and what makes you bet the amount that you do.
I generally like [...]
