ATP - Donald Young v Tommy Haas

Tommy Haas (42) will take on Donald Young (104) in the first round of the Countrywide Classic.

Tommy Haas has been playing some solid tennis the last couple of tournements. When we look back to Cincinnati has played in the 1st round against Youzhny (16) where he won in 3 sets 7-6 2-6 6-4. In the 2nd round he played against Monfils who retired in the 1st set when Haas was 5-1 up. In the eight-final Haas played as solid game against the new number 1 in the world, Nadal. But Haas still managed to win 10 games, he lost the 1st set 4-6 and the 2nd set after a tie-break. In the 1st round in Toronto Haas won against Moya in straight sets, 6-3 6-2. The tournement before that Haas won in the first round in Indian Wells 7-6 6-2 against Lavine (121). I like the way Haas is playing right now, he surprised me a little with his fighting spirit against Nadal. Haas just refused to give up and fought for every point. He was solid on his own serve, and he didn't panic when he was behind in the count. Today I expect Haas to play on the same level he did against Nadal, this will be a short game for Young.

Donald Young has been extremely poor, I give have very little chance today to come close to only winning a set. In the previous tournements Young preformed poorly in 1st rounds. In his last 5 1st round matches, he was only able to win 1. This were his results: Delray Beach 6-7 3-6 against Delic(120), Indian Wells 6-3 6-4 win over Reynolds (107), Indianapolis 2-6 4-6 against Spadea (94), Toronto 1-6 3-6 against Simon (22) and finaly Cincinnati 1-6 1-6 against Monfils (35). As you can see Young is having big problems winning games, and he has even more problems doing so when playing against highly ranked players. Today will be no difirent, Young is out of form...he will keep out of form for a little longer.

For todays game I predict Haas to win this game 2-0 first of all. When talking about the scores of the set...I think 6-4 6-1 will be very reallistic. Remember Young only picked up 6 games in total in his 2 games against Simon and Monfils, Haas is about the same quality player as those two. Young will strugle with his serve, Haas will pressure him with ease. When I saw Young playing in Cincinnati I just know that he will have a lot of problems to make Haas loose his serve.
