Tonight the Houston Astros host the New York Mets.
Houston are 4th in the NL Central, with a 52-57 (.477) record. They are 5-5 in their last 10 and they won the 2 previous games against the Mets on Friday (7-3) and Saturday (5-4). Housten is 28-26 (.519) at home for the season. Tonights starter for the Astros is Randy Wolf, who is 6-10 for the season, with a 4.79 ERA. This season Wolf pitched for 124 innings where he struck out 104 batters while walking 50. Wolf is 10-5 in career starts against the Mets, where he has an 3.35 ERA in 164 innings pitched. The Astros have very little injury problems, Bourn is out with an ankle injury thats about it.
The New York Mets are 2nd in the NL East, with an 56-50(.528) record. The Mets are 5-5 in the last 10 and they have lost their last 2 (both against this Houston team).
The Mets are 25-31 (.446) in away games this season. Tonights starting pitchers is Oliver Perez, who is 7-6 for the season with an 4.02 ERA. In 123 innings he struck out 112 while walking 67. Perez is 2-1 in career starts against the Astros with an ERA of 2.67 in 29.1 innings pitched. Last night Mets closer Billy Wagner blew his 7th save for the season! He gave up 2 runs in the 9th to tie the game at 4 all at the end of the 9th. The Astros managed to score a run in the 10th inning to win the game 5-4. The Mets also have much bigger problems with injured players than the Astros, the injured players for the Mets are: Alou, Castillo, Church and Anderson.
For tonight I expect the Astros to win it without the additional runline, but I'm gonna play it safe here and go for Houston +2,5. The Mets are not looking strong the last couple of games, especially last night, with Santana starting and Wagner closing the game with a 2 run lead, and still go down 5-4...Thats gotta hurt! If the Mets would win tonght, it will be with less than 3 runs, and Jose Valverde won't make the same mistake Wagner made last night. He will close the game with 0 runs in the 9th. In the last 7 days for the Astros, Pence scored 6 runs, Matsui 5, Tajeda 4 and Berkman 6. This should by easy enough to secure Houston's 2,5 run lead tonight. Good luck!
