MLB - Minnesota Twins v Chicago White Sox
31 July 2008

Minnesota has once again lost the opportunity of reaching the White Sox in the leading of the AL Central division and they saw the White Sox again getting a two game leading in the division. Today the team will once again try to come close to the lead and for that, they will send Scott Baker (7-3, 3.37 ERA, 1.115 WHIP). Baker has been really solid at home with really good numbers: 3-1 and 2.38 ERA and he has been amazing in this month. Looking to the runs he has allowed, we have the following numbers: 3-1-4-0-3. And in hits, the numbers are also very good: 5-2-6-5-7. Now for the impact to be bigger, he has faced Cleveland, Texas, Boston and Detroit twice, all of them very powerful in the offense.
The White Sox will send the Southpaw John Danks (8-4, 3.18 ERA), who has been really good on the road, with really nice numbers: 5-1, 2.31 ERA and 1.091 WHIP. However Danks hasn't been well recently and even though he is 2-0, his sequence of allowed runs isn't great: 5-6-4-2. I give an edge to Barker in today's duel, but that's not the only reason I think the Twins will get this one. The team is 11-4 and 5.1 runs per game vs LHP in home games and today they will have this advantage over Danks. Also the Twins are on a 6-0 run in their last 6 home games. A curious fact is that the umpire of today's game is 16-5 in favor of the home team this season. The Twins are 11-2 against the run line in home games vs. an AL starting pitcher whose ERA is 3.50 or better this season, so I'll put half of my stake on the ML and the other one on the RL.

What makes a bet ?
I’ve often wondered how other guys decide whether to bet or not. I know personally that there are no strict adhereances that I abide by ( there should be……but there isn’t), and I just wondered how you guys out there make a bet, and what makes you bet the amount that you do.
I generally like [...]
