MLB - Milwaukee Brewers v Chicago Cubs
Wednesday, 7/30/2008 8:05 PM RYAN DEMPSTER (R) vs. MANNY PARRA (L)
The Cubs have won again yesterday in Milwaukee, this time by 7-1 and they are now leading the series by 2-0 and they have a great chance to complete today a sweep and against a division rival. Fortunately for me, I took them in the first two games of the series and cashed two dogs with them: +155 and +115. Today they will send Dempster (11-4, 2.99 ERA), who has been doing a good season. In his last outing, he was finally capable of getting a win in the road. It was in Houston and he did it with a shutout in 8 innings, so right now he is 1-3 and 3.42 ERA on the road. After having achieved this away win, he will now be looking for a second win in a row and he will be fully motivated to do it. He is still unbeatable in July, his numbers don't lie and he has just allowed 1-0-4-1-2 runs and 2-6-7-2-5 hits this month. Besides that, he is 6-1 and 3.16 ERA against the Brewers on his career and 2-0 this season.
Milwaukee will use the Southpaw Manny Parra (9-3, 3.72 ERA), who has been amazing at home (5-1, 3.06 ERA), but his only home defeat this season was exactly on his last game against Houston, so we can expect a bounce back by him today, but let's not forget that in July, Parra hasn't been consistent and the consequence of that is that the team is 1-4 this month with him starting. However, the Cubs have a lot of momentum in this series, their pitchers clearly won the big duel they had and their offense was also way better: 26 vs 14 hits. Besides that, the fact of Parra is a left hander is perfect for the Cubs, which has been amazing against LHP, as their record is 20-11 with 6.1 runs per game, while against RHP they are just averaging 4.9 runs per game. It's also curious to see that the Cubs are 23-30 on the road this season, but 10-9 on road games while facing a LHP. Once again the Cubs are the dogs and I'll take them for the third time in a row.
MLB PREVIEW:
CINCINNATI (50 - 58) at HOUSTON (50 - 56)
Wednesday, 7/30/2008 8:05 PM EDINSON VOLQUEZ (R) vs. WANDY RODRIGUEZ (L)
Houston will be looking today for a sweep against the Reds, after having won the previous two games of the series. The team is coming from a good sequence of 4-1 L5, while the Reds have now lost their last five games. The Astros will send today to the pitch Wandy Rodriguez (6-3, 3.18 ERA) who is playing like an ace pitcher, as in his last three starts, he is 3-0 and 3.00 ERA. Wandy at home has been also amazing with 3-2, 2.54 ERA and 1.107 WHIP and today he can give a great chance for another win for the Astros.
On the other side, the Reds will send Volquez, who is also having a nice season with 12-4 and 2.77 ERA. He has also been consistent on the road (6-2, 2.24 ERA) and he is 3-1 on his last four roads games. However Volquez comes from two disappointing home games, where he was the favorite and his team lost both games. For this game Houston is the favorite, however Rodriguez comes from two games where he was the clear dog by +114 and +147. I don't know if there isn't a possibility of a letdown tonight, especially when Volquez is also a good pitcher and he has done very well on the road this season.
