MLB - Washington Nationals v Philadelphia Phillies
Wednesday, 7/30/2008 7:10 PM JAMIE MOYER (L) vs. TIM REDDING (R)
Washington continues with their winless run and they have now lost their last 7 games and the scenario isn't great for the team. On the other side, Philadelphia win their win yesterday continues their fight for the lead on their division. The Phillies will send Jamie Moyer (9-6, 3.76 ERA) today and they expect him to continue with his good performances and being a road game doesn't seem to be a problem at all, as Moyer is 5-3 and 2.93 ERA on road games. Impressive has been his last outings, where Moyer is 2-0 and 1.80 ERA. He has been consistent lately and he has just allowed 1-2-1-3 runs in his starts in July.
His today's opponent will be Tim Redding (7-5, 3.98 ERA), who has suffered for being in the worst team of the league, as he has been actually playing well lately. On his last 3 outings, he is 1-2 and 3.50 ERA, however against the Giants he has just allowed one run and at home against Houston he had a shutout. This will be the second game of the series and yesterday both offenses struggled to score, which isn't a surprise considering we are talking about these two teams. Moyer is 8-2 Under on his last 10 starts and Redding on his career against Philadelphia is 7-1 Under, with the only over being on his last game where he hasn't allowed a single run. I expect both teams to continue their offensive struggle today, especially with two good pitchers in the field. Take the under in here.
Trends for this game:
REDDING is 7-0 against the money line vs. NL teams scoring 4.8 or more runs/game on the season this season.
REDDING is 13-3 UNDER when the money line is +125 to -125 over the last 2 seasons.
MLB PREVIEW:
COLORADO (48 - 60) at PITTSBURGH (50 - 57)
Wednesday, 7/30/2008 7:05 PM AARON COOK (R) vs. ZACH DUKE (L)
Colorado has managed for the second time in a row to lose against the Pirates after leading the game. Yesterday they were up by 4 runs and then the Pirates managed to turn around the game and today they come with the ambition to complete the sweep and take revenge from the Rockies. Colorado will send Aaron Cook (13-6, 3.46 ERA) to the pitch today, who can help them to win today, as he has been on-fire even after the All-Star break. He has been really solid on the road with 7-3 and 3.48 ERA and after the All-Star break, he has won his two starts: on the road against the Reds and at home against these Pirates.
On the other side, the Pirates will send Zack Duke (4-8, 5.04 ERA), who has been doing a terrible season. Duke is yet to win in July and the team has lost all matches this month where he was the SP (0-5). On his last three starts, he is 0-3 with 10.06 ERA and 1.824 WHIP! Curiously Duke faced Cook in a game in Colorado, where the Rockies won by 11-3. There is clearly a mismatch on the form of the two pitchers, however the Pirates have the momentum of this series, as they look to get revenge from the sweep they suffered in Colorado and I don't know if there is any value in taking a road favorite -145 in these conditions.
