I was happy with my calls over the weekend with both Kent and Middlesex winning there Twenty20 Semi-Finals so will get stuck in again here.
Essex should have beaten Kent in the Twenty20 after the great start they made, sadly some tactical errors and sloppy fielding left them chasing just too many come the end. The disapointment was there for all to see afterwards and i wonder just how quickly they recover from it. The game is being played up in Derbyshire and as ive said before Essex are a much better side at Chelmsford than out on the road. Essex fought back superbly to tie with Leicestershire in there last Pro40 match and remain unbeaten after 2 matches with 3 points.
I think i may have under estimated Derbyshire at the start of the Pro40 season and they are a much better side than i first thought. They opened there campaign with a fine win at Northants were they chased down 223 with relative easy in the end. A top order that could consist of Rogers, Birch, Hinds, Smith and Telo has 5 potential match winner and all of these boys are capable of scoring fast runs, Birch will look to 'tee off' from the start if selected. Derbyshire have a nice blend of Left and Right handed batsmen at the top of the order and that could put Essex's bowlers out of there full swing. My main concern is the Derbyshire bowling looks a little weaker than the Essex bowling attack.
In this match we have an Essex side away from home and a bit down after saturday, against a Derbyshire side confident after there opening and its also worth remembering Derbyshire were unbeaten at home in the Friends Provident trophy this year (a competition not too different to the Pro40).
The 2.50 on Derbyshire winning this match is too big in my opinion and therefore im happy to be getting involved and betting against my bosses one again!!!!
