Saturday is Twenty20 finals day and if the 'Champions League' gets the go ahead then the 2 semi-finals are potentially the biggest money spinners ever in English cricket!!!
The opening match sees, My boys, Essex take on local rivals Kent down at the Rose Bowl in Hampshire. The Twenty20s really is a great day out, Myself and rdeacon went 2 years ago and had a great day out!!!! Ive opted out this year as the ground doesnt have a 'Hooters' near by.
Essex and Kent met twice in the South group and shared the spoils (both won there home matches) Essex had a narrow win at Chelmsford but Kent stuffed us at there place. Ive said in a different review how highly i rate the Kent 1day side. They are both great batting sides, Kent bat all the way down to 10 and essex know how to hold a bat down to about No.9.
Essex's Home form in all competitions this season is excellent with the 'Groundsman' producing the right pitches to suit out players and it has paid dividends, 'Flat turners' is what Essex require and when they get them they usually win. I very much doubt that down in Hampshire this weekend the pitch will suit the Essex way, it will be flat with good bounce and pace and not ideal for our spin options!! A typical 1day pitch should suit Kent a lot more that Essex.
I'd back Essex to beat any side at home this season in any form of the game but away from home it hasnt always gone there way. Essex have had some great individual performances in 1day cricket this year Napiers and Boparas both spring to mind and they will need the same come saturday to beat a good Kent side. Key and Denly always seem to get Kent off to a good start and if they do a score over 200 is always on the cards.
Im happy to be on Kent at 1.80 in this match as it looks a decent price, Twenty20 can be a bit of a lottery and with that in mind i probably wouldnt touch a side any shorter than about 1.80 or ever go big stakes.
Kent should win this im afraid to say.
