Tour De France - Sastre v Menchov

D Day in the Tour de France. Arrive in the Alpe de Huez, in the last big mountain stage. The mountain is mythical, the Mother of All Climbs, the Queen Stage. Huez has 21 curves, each one with stories of attacks, Tours that are won and lost. About 15 km around 7 and 8% which, always, is decisive and creates enormous gaps. This Tour De France has all the cyclists very close and since this is the last mountain stage before the time-trial, the attacks must happen. The Croix de Fer, another special category climb, can brake some legs.

This is a tricky bet, but i think Sastre can be backed. CSC has two weapons to play: Sastre and Schleck. I believe tomorrow CSC will try to make Evans run after them. Probably Voigt will hold on in Croix de Fer and in the Huez both Schleck's and Sastre will bet in a attack-counter attack strategy to knock-out Evans, a little like in Hautacam.

Menchov is a very tight cyclist. I think today he lost the Tour in the descent and tomorrow will try to recover some time. Even so, i don't think Menchov is that strong: the third week is starting to be heavy in his legs, after the effort in the Giro d'Italia. Menchov is a diesel cyclist, he rarely attacks.

Sastre must attack and win time. The odds are good and tempting.
