WTA - Vera Zvonareva v Stosur
Vera Zvonareva has been terrific this season, especially on hardcourt. She is 20-5 on hardcourt this season and she has gone really far in some major tournaments, like a final in Doha, quarter finals in Indian Wells and semi finals in Miami. The Russian player is now playing her best ever and she is just one spot away from coming back to the Top 10, after so many years outside it. Zvonareva has one of the best baseline games in the circuit and she is also one of the best returners in the world, something that will stop Stosur's main weapon: her serve.
With Zvonareva returning well Stosur's serve, the Australian player has basically nothing to hurt her opponent. Even though Stosur has won her last two matches against Zvonareva, the truth is that the Russian player is way better this season than she was in 2007 and also Stosur isn't a Top 30 player anymore. When I backed Stosur against Rodionova, I said that Stosur is way better than her ranking shows, but that doesn't mean she is even close to the level she had last season. Recent beatdowns against Petrova (6-3 6-3), K Bondarenko (6-3 6-2) and Kvitova (6-2 6-1) show it. This will be Zvonareva's first match since Wimbledon, but she has been amazing this season on her first matches in tournaments, as she is 9-3 ATS on her first match on a tournament this season. Take Zvonareva minus the games in here.
