ATP - John Isner v Tommy Haas
Once again Isner and Haas go head to head on an American tournament. This has happened twice in the past twelve months and Isner won both matches. So, it's kinda strange to see Isner having such an high game spread for this game, especially as it will be required for Haas to cover the spread to at least break Isner one more time than Isner breaks his serve and to win a tie-break, when Isner is 2-1 on tie-breaks against Haas. The reason why the spread is so high, it's because Isner's poor season so far. He is 3-7 on his last 10 matches, but his best part of the season is starting now, where he can really use his huge serve to build a winning streak, just like he did last season. And the truth is that in the first round he didn't have an easy task against Robert Kendrick, but the truth is that Isner won the match by 7-5 6-4, a result which will give him a lot of confidence.
Talking about confidence, that's something Haas lacks while playing huge servers. That's why he is (or was) 0-2 vs Isner, 1-4 vs Karlovic, 1-4 vs Rusedski, 0-1 vs El Aynaoui and 0-2 vs Mahut. Haas clearly struggles when he is facing an huge server and knows that he is the favorite to win. That's why he struggles against these players I've referred and he plays very well against Roddick, when he has no pressure. As with these players holding serve in a comfortable way, Haas feels pressured on his serve, something he can't handle, ending up having terrible service games, thanks to that. On the other side, Isner knows he isn't the favorite, but the confidence of having beaten Haas twice on similar surfaces of this tournaments will do wonders for his serve. Haas may win, but this won't be as straight forward as the game handicap proposed by the bookies makes you think. Take Isner plus the games in here.
