ATP - Frank Dancevic v Bobby Reynolds
This will be a revenge game, as Dancevic lost to Reynolds in Wimbledon three weeks ago. The truth is that after winning the first set by 6-4, Dancevic started to be bothered by an injury, which didn't allow him to serve as well as he can, which helped Reynolds, who took advantage from that to win the next three sets and the match. Dancevic played last week in Newport, where he reached semi finals. I can't say he was great in Newport, but he is clearly more comfortable on hardcourt than in any other surface. He reached the final of this tournament last season, including a straight sets win over Andy Roddick in the semi finals, which was probably his best win ever. Even though he isn't at 100%, he is still a terrific server (served double digits aces twice last week) and a good baseliner, who is also capable to finish the points on the net. He is 3-0 against Reynolds on hardcourt and this is the time of the season where he gives all his effort, as the Canadian Open is next week.
Bobby Reynolds didn't play since his third round match in Wimbledon and even though he is probably playing his best tennis, I don't think he should be the favorite to beat the defending finalist of this tournament. He is just 3-14 on his last 17 matches played hardcourt at ATP level (3-4 this season) and he has a negative record of 7-8 while being priced by the bookies as a favorite. Reynolds has a good record this season, but almost all his best results were on challengers, as he is just 3-8 at ATP this season against Top 100 players. His serve is inconsistent and his second serve can be easily attacked. His return shot is average at best and if Dancevic is capable to serve just like he did last week in Newport, then we won't see Reynolds having a lot of chances to break Dancevic today.
Even though Dancevic hasn't been impressive in the past few weeks, the truth is that Reynolds hasn't shown nothing too special to be the favorite against a talented player like the Canadian player. Dancevic defends a lot of points this season and he will also be motivated to get revenge over his loss against Reynolds at Wimbledon. Take Dancevic to win.
