ATP - Robby Ginepri v Paul Capdeville
Robby Ginepri is another case of a player who steps it up on this time of the season. Ginepri is a former winner in here, including his only win against Roddick, and he is 10-5 on hardcourt on his own country since the US Open last season. After two terrible seasons in 2006 and 2007, where he went from inside of the Top 20 to out of the Top 100, Ginepri hired a new coach and began to perform very well again and this season, he was even capable of get into the fourth round of Roland Garros! The American player is now into the Top 60 again and he has a great opportunity to get into the Top 50 in this part of the season, where he is great and he has almost nothing to defend. He is a great server and his baseline game is extremely good and since he hired Jose Higueras, his game has also become much more consistent and with Ginepri having more patience to play some long rallies.
He is going to face Paul Capdeville today in the first round, in the night session of the tournament, where he is going to be supported by thousands of US fans. And if in theory Capdeville is a tough opponent, he is actually in bad form right now. He is 6-12 outside clay this season and his best win was against Jesse Huta-Galung, who was ranked 186 by then. Also in those defeats, he has suffered very heavy defeats, like 6-2 6-4 vs Melzer, 6-1 6-2 vs Minar, 6-7 6-0 6-4 6-4 vs Mathieu, 6-1 6-4 vs Blake, 7-6 6-1 vs Stepanek or 6-3 6-1 vs Bjorkman. Capdeville is without confidence on his serve and he is also struggling to serve well, which is a concern against Ginepri, who can attack well weak second serves. Capdeville is under a huge crisis right now and last week he lost in the first round of Newport against someone out of the Top 150 in the first round. The Chilean player wasn't lucky with his draw in here and he should start to get ready to get another beatdown tonight. Take Ginepri minus the games in here.
