Championship - Bristol City v Relegation
The new season is less than a month away and its time to start thinking about our pre-season bets and hopefully snap up any value there is out there!!!!
After last seasons exploits you might think this is a daft bet, i dont however, and think we are more than capable of 'doing a Colchester' and getting relegated. Last season was fantastic for Bristol City and we came so close to getting into the 'Premiership'. The disappointment must have been huge for the boys and it will take real character to bounce back and try again this season.
There is no doubting City had there fair share of luck last season and if it could go Citys way it tended to do so. They made a great start with just 1 defeat from the opening 15 league matches but eventually limped there way into the 'play offs' with just 2 wins from the final 11 matches.
Bristol City struggled to score goals last season, 54 goals scored is infact 8 less than bottom placed Colchester scored and despite finishing the season in 4th spot managed just a +1 goals difference, Im struggling to see where the goals will come from this year. Byfield top scored last season with just 8 goals and has been released by the club for this season.
As of today transfer action is a bit slow, 1 player in (Gavin Williams) 1 player out (Nick Carle). Williams is reportedly a good player although has had his fair share of injuries, Nick Carle for all his skills never really hit it off in his brief spell at the club, We did make a profit on him though!!! Others players have been linked to the club but as yet nobody else has signed, A mate just phoned me (Wolves fan) and said Wolves are looking to take Marvin Elliott off our hands. Elliott was superb for us last season and if he does go it will be a major blow and show a real lack of ambition from City. He didnt play in our 1st friendly because of an injury or is it because he is off???? time will tell.
Other teams around us seem to be moving forward and so far it looks like City have taken a few steps back, If we get off to a bad start it could be a long season for us. I see us being bottom 6 this season as opposed to top 6. 52 points couldnt keep Leicester up last season and in a league that looks tight from bottom to top finding wins could be a struggle for us. Barnsley can be backed to be relegated at 2.50 in places Bristol City are 13.0 but is there really that much of a gulf between these 2 sides???? i dont think so.
13.0 looks outstanding value for a side that punched well above there weight last season and im sure this price wont be around for too long.
