Wimbledon Ladies Final

This must be my first ever tip on tennis. I dont tip on it because i do not follow the sport particularly closely. However as usual i have been scouring the novelty markets (tired of looking at cycling odds) and something caught my eye which then led to me finding this bet.

To demonstrate how little i clearly follow tennis i was staggered when i saw the handicap betting on who would make the fastest serve with Venus favoured by 9.5mph. I thought they served at very similar speeds as i was sure they shared the fastest serve WR in the womens game. So i went and dug out their respective statistics to see why the line was set at 9.5mph. The answer was soon obvious with there being pretty much 9mph between them.

However i did also discover that Venus hits far more double faults than Serena. Here are their respective records:

Serena has played 21,20,20,18,16 and 21 games, Venus has played 20,20,19,19,19 and 20 games so its a very similar sample. In that time Serena has double faulted 1,3,5,0,1 and 0 times while Venus has doubled faulted 3,6,6,6,3 and 3 times.

If they had arranged a virtual match bet between the 2 on each round Serena would be winning 6-0. Being a follower of stats and trends this has caught my eye, the odds are not fantastic but its impossible or me to ignore the fact that Serena has shown to have a more consistent second serve.

Venus has lost 6 of 8 grand slam finals to Serena and despite having more Wimbledon titles you have to wonder if Serena is more capable of raising her game in the ones that really matter than venus when they play one another.

With the pressure of the final on any weaknesses will surely only be highlighted so i expect this pick will win quite comfortably. Stake it as you see fit tho, there is a good reason theres no little tennis balls in my profile until today as i said its not a sport i follow too closely.
