The Knights lost to Manly 12-28 last weekend but they played alot better than I thought they would, they competed for large chunks of that game before going down to the Eaglkes, the Dragins continuied on their merry way to yet another win which is just outstanding for Dragons fans as they beat the Titans 26 - 22 on the Gold Coast.
The Dragons are without at the moment Ben Creagh and Mark Gasnier but should have Cooper back for them in the centres but apart from that barring any mishaps they will remain with what is a solid side with alot of them geting good playing time over the last few winning weeks. The Dragons are looking for their 7th consecutive win this weekend and against the Knights they are in with a very good chance of getting the chocklates here, they have a great record against the Knights particuarly at Energy Australia Stadium and they have been winning, last weeks game was a very good effort and they should show up confident and ready to play here.
The Knights should have Buderus,Cross and Gidley back on deck for this match and Buderus has showed already that backing up is not a problem for him,but even so the Knights have been playing a very solid brand of footy of late and although I don't rate them I cannot ignore them, last week they were right in that game and that was a Knights side without their 3 best players who fronted up in defence very strongly but lacked much to get over the Eagles with, there are also a number of Knights players who last season were let go from the Dragons .so that could be a factor ,the Knights are the new Sharks this season their last 5 Games they have lost 3 and won 2,the two they lost was aganst the Warriors where they played very badly and lost 18-16,they then backed that up a week later against the Bulldogs winning 22-12 and then beat the Cowboys 30-18,they have now lost their last two games but they have lost to the Roosters by 2 at full strength and the Eagles at full strength bar Stewart and been beaten but not as badly as you might of thought before that game last week without Buderus,Gidley and Cross, now they face off against the Dragons winners of 6 straight and heading in confidence to face off against the Knights at a venue where the Dragons have an excellent record, very intresting game in prospect here.
The Dragons have won 8 of the last 10 between these two sides and in Newcaste the Dragons have won their last 4 games here and their only loss in 5 games in Newcastle was 2 points. The Dragons are actually a bogey side for a number of the Sydney Clubs as you would expect, the Eagles,Roosters,Sharks and Knights all have losing records against the Dragons whether home or away.
The Dragons have been good of late but they are due a loss and it will most likley come about now I reckon, the Dragons are without Gasnier and Cooper will be backing up,alot of the NRL this season it's almost like having to rate the games on a strange level with alot of the players being very new and young and game experience is the key, both sides have it but in this match it rests with the Knights, the Dragons have a good forward pack who have been very strong but no Creagh is a big deal,he has been one of the Dragons best straight hard runners over the last few weeks and has been avergaing some great meters and making alot of tackles,Sailor is also back for the Dragons but I don't think he will be a big factor to be honest, the Dragons backline have been good regardless of whos in there but the real question is the Knights and Dragons forward battle and whoever wins that will win this game, the Knights have shown in the forwards especially that they have what it takes this season in tight matches and that is what this game will be,it will come down to that one pass or one dummy will set up late in that game to gain some mometum to then hold on at the death,I like the Knights,I think they have shown a great abilty to compete over the last 5 weeks and in all their games they have never been out of them, the Dragons have been winning but although they have had some big wins they have never kicked away from another side and they won't I beleive be able to kick away from this Newcastle side either,I think playmaker wise that both sides have pretty much the same options, with Young,Soward and Hornby for the Dragons and Buderus,Gidley,Bailey and Mullen in this Knights side,in fact if anything the Knights probaly have a bit more than the Dragons.
Regardless there won't be much in this match and although they have a shocking record against the Dragons I think if there is going to be a time when the Knights can get them then this is it right now,the Knights are the highest scoring side in the Comp with 20mins left in a game they have ran untill the 80 is up this season and they have benefited off of it,I reckon the Knights are pretty good here this week but it won't be a hiding,Take the Knights by 2 to 8 points and if you can get them at the margin then take it....Good Luck..
