Maybe we could profit more if i wrote this preview yesterday or two days ago, but i wanted to be sure Derry will take this League Cup clash seriously, as i was sure Bohs HAD to make some changes.
Bohs manager Pat Fenlon already before match with Finn Harps, a week ago, said that he will make some changes in team for League Cup clash. Since then they had Harps match (2:0) and Rhyl match in ITC (4:2). I think he seriously meant it, and he repeated himself in pre-match interview. Although i respect their bench players, and unfit players coming after injuries as well, i think that this will weakness their team a lot. With Bosh busy fixture, League Cup, FAI Cup, domestic championship and Intertoto, i think Eircome League and Intertoto are priorities (as few times stated by Fenlon). No doubt that Bohs are currently Top3 team in Ireland, but Derry isn't really weak team either. Bohs current run of eight wins in a row equals a record set 80 years ago, and i think they won't try to push more, although it could be extra motivation.
Derry, currently 4th in the league, is already 7 pts behind leading Bohs, and their chances for title are slim. They are coming after bitter defeat against Pats, team that is only real rival to Bohs in this season is you ask me. Derry is good team, one with the most trophies in Ireland and they are defending this League Cup. Good chance for them to advance to Semi Finals as Bohs just can't keep focus on all competitions. Derry manager Stephen Kenny few times said that he will try to rotate team and that was why i feared to take this earlier, but here is his last statement:
"But I'm more concerned with us and given last weekend's performance, I intend to make a number of changes. Mark McChrystal and Aaron Callaghan could come into the picture while Darren Quigley is also in contention as he was training on Sunday and Monday.
"I think it's important that I give one or two players an opportunity to claim a first team place, but there will not be drastic changes.
Gareth McGlynn comes back into the picture as his medial ligament wasn't damaged, he was basically the victim of an old-fashion 'clatter' in Drogheda, but he's okay."
So, he will give chance to players that recovered from injury recently, and won't make drastic changes. That's what i wanted to hear. Derry is expected to win this one, not only by their fans, but Bohs fans as well. Few Bohs players are certain to miss this fixture, Burns, J. P. Kelly, Powell, Owen Heary and McGuinness should probably be out with injuries. As four of this five are defenders that will certainly affect their defense, and as Fenlon is expected to feature few U21 players i think it's great chance to bet against Bohemians, i think first time this season. As this is League Cup, and Derry also will make some changes, i decided for level ball, i can't see Derry losing today, in worst case we will get our money back...
