WTA - Sugiyama v Alisa Kleybanova
Fourteen years separate these two players. Ai Sugiyama is one of the most experienced players in the circuit, but she is still a really quick players, which allows the holy hell out of the young ball bashers we see trying to dominate the circuit. The Japanese player had two very tough matches already in here and she won both really well over Yanina Wickmayer and Flavia Pennetta, showing that she is still one of the best grass courters in the world and one of the most dangerous players in the world, due to her ability to literally return everything and her experience, which makes her a really tough opponent in Grand Slams.
Alisa Kleybanova is an hard hitter, who struggles to move around the court, due to her terrible physical shape. She carries too much weight and she will struggle to play such a quick player like Sugiyama, who will return a lot of balls, making her move a lot around the court. Kleybanova's losses over Fujiwara, Niculescu, Zakopalova and Schnyder on fast surfaces this season shows us she struggles against players who move really well above the court and make her hit the extra shot she struggles to do well. Also Kleybanova is an unforced error machine, having committed 19 in her first round match and 32 in the second round. Sugiyama hit 10 in the first round and 24 in the second round. Today against a player which will make her move a lot, expect Kleybanova to get close to 50 unforced errors if the match goes to a long third set.
Kleybanova comes to a great win over Hantuchova, even though the Slovakian player comes from a severe injury, and this defeat should have worn out physically and especially emotionally. Sugiyama knows how to take care of these young players almost young enough to be their daughters and she will make the sloppy Kleybanova move around the court, obligating the Russian player to play badly and committing a lot of errors. Take Sugiyama to win in here.
