ATP - Rainer Schuettler v Guillermo Garcia-Lopez
This is a match between two players which nobody expected them to go so far in this tournament. Rainer Schuettler is one of the most experienced players in the tour and the time where he was a Top 5 player and reached a Grand Slam final has passed a couple of years ago. However he is still capable of doing good runs in some tournament and this is clearly the case in here. Schuettler played one of his best matches in a couple of years in the previous round, defeating the 9th seed James Blake in five sets. Luckily for him, the rain hasn't been dominating the tournament, so he had one day to rest and to prepare for this match. Surely the fact that his opponent in the third round has a lower ranking than him, makes him realize than he can reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time since the US Open in 2003. Schuettler has a good game for the surface, with a reasonable serve and a good physical shape, which allows him to reach a lot of balls. Also he has a lot of technique and he can hit perfectly some really hard strokes. He is 32 years old and he has nothing else to prove. He will play the game for the game and he will not enter the court nervous.
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez has just reached the third round of a Grand Slam just for the second time on his career. This will be the 11th time for Schuettler. Garcia-Lopez isn't having a great season and even though he reached this stage of the tournament, he wasn't impressive and was helped with the draw by facing a qualifier in round one and Almagro, whose game is yet to be suitable for grass in the second round. Another major problem is his number of double faults he has served in his two matches in here, especially in the second round where he had 9 double faults. Garcia-Lopez doesn't have a great serve and he will need to play a lot of baseline rallies to win his service games. That will be hard, as Garcia-Lopez is very far to be used to such a stage on a Grand Slam and he will struggle to fight off the nerves and play his game without feeling his arms heavier than the usual.
With both players having the same level right now and both coming from a five sets match in the previous round, I think the factor which will give the upperhand to a player in here is the experience of Schuettler. The German player won't feel the pressure of playing a Grand Slam third round and his win over Blake will give him a lot of confidence for this match. Garcia-Lopez will struggle to find his own rhythm in the beginning of the match and then the experience of Schuettler won't allow the Spanish player to comeback to the match. Take Schuettler to win in here.
