WTA - Ana Ivanovic v Jie Zheng

WTA Wimbledon - Ana Ivanovic (SBR) vs Jie Zheng (CHN)

Even though most people will think this is a pick against Ivanovic, it is clearly a pick in favor of Zheng. Obviously it helps that Ivanovic has been far from her best, but the reason of this pick is that I really think Zheng has enough game to go head to head against the world number one without feeling way inferior to Ivanovic. Zheng is extremely talented and she would be close to the Top 20, if she didn't have some injury problems a couple of months ago. She hits the ball very well, with power and consistence in the baseline. She is also very smart how she approaches her matches and she will for sure attack Ivanovic's weak backhand today, causing her to return the balls with a lot of problems. Zheng moves also very well, which will obligate Ivanovic to hit the ball way more than she is expecting to finish a point.

Another positive aspect of Zheng is the lack of unforced errors. She had 8 in her first round match and 7 in the second round. Ivanovic hit 11 in the first round and 34 in the second round! Zheng won't offer points to Ivanovic and she will need to get them, something she will struggle to do, as Zheng is an amazing baseliner and with her high percentage of first serves in (66% 1st round; 70% 2nd round), Ivanovic will struggle to break her. Zheng has no problems in facing the best players in the world, as her wins over Mauresmo, Kirilenko, Petrova, Peer, Myskina and Golovin in the last three seasons show it. An huge upset in here isn't impossible to happen, however I'll play it safe and take Zheng plus the games in here.
