ATP - David Ferrer v Mario Ancic
Rematch from last week's quarter finals in the Ordina Open, where Ferrer won by 6:4 7:6. Obviously the first thought comes to the fact that Ancic may get revenge in here. However his opponent is David Ferrer, world number five which will become 4th in the rankings after this tournament. The Spanish player is the best returner in the circuit on fast surfaces and he is the kind of player you simply don't want to face. Everytime you write him off, he comes back and wins the match. He comes to this tournament extremely confident after winning the Ordina Open last week and his game is suited to every surface. He has an amazing defensive game and his forehand can also help him in finishing the points quickly, when it's necessary. He had a tough second round match against Igor Andreev, but he easily passed that test, winning by 3:6 6:3 6:4 6:2.
Mario Ancic is always billed as the last guy who defeated Roger Federer on grass, back in 2002. He had some terrible injuries between 2002 and 2008 and he is yet to have improved greatly enough to become a top contender for the title in here. He hasn't been very impressive this season and he needed five sets to take out the qualifier Philipp Petzschner in the second round. The Croatian has a great serve and a good fighting spirit, but so does Ferrer, who also possesses a great return shot, capable of neutralizing Ancic's big serve, even on grass. Ancic losses against Ferrer last week and Gasquet two weeks ago, both in straight sets, shows how the Croatian can't still be at the level of the best players in the world. Ferrer won't be pressured, as he will feel himself as the underdog in here and he will fight and end up get the win in here. Take Ferrer to win.
