The Blues have no gasnier and no Bird and although those two players might not mean that much to some to me it is a very big reason to not like them, both those players bring different things to the table and without both of them the Blues lose alot of aggression and alot of natural talent,Monoghan comes in for Gasneir but he although being very good is no Mark Gasnier,Gasnier can step off both feet,he is very hard to contain and any side that has played against him this year can say that is true,Bird although not a real standoff brings some real heart to the Blues and although they have Anasta there who talent wise is probaly better than Bird you cannot take away that sort of agggression that Bird brings with him,the rest of this Blues side is also pretty much what I expected but I would of far more liked to of seen Mateo with Cronk in the halves as i think that Anasta and Pearce imparticular although playing for a winning side are really being over rated here for this match and neither player has really excelled at this level before especially Anasta.Their forward pack is good and their backline is very good but you can almost see what the Blues are trying for here, they will play a tight game and try to use aggression to win this game and that is easier said than done,in Game 1 I tipped the Blues because the aggression factor was there for them and the Gasnier factor was there to take advantage of a back peddling Maroons side,Game 2 I knew the Maroons would be ready for it and would respond and they did,if the Blues could of kept that same side together I would of tipped them to win but those two players and a brand new halves pairng makes me like the Maroons to win this game.
Queensland have a great looking side on paper and really should win this match, they don't have the natural brilliance of Gasnier there to get the Blues going and they have alot of talent within their ranks, their halves are very good and they have sone of the best talent the Rugby League world has to offer, their forward pack which is being lead by two of the oldest but best go forward props should continuie wherwe they left off and keep going forward and with a backline the likes of what this Queensland side has to offer you can expect them to score points and it is enevitable that they will, the real question is how many and by how much will they if they can win this match win by.
As this game is being played in NSW you have to give the Blues some hope here as they are a far different proposition compared to when they are away and the same can be said of the Maroons,in the last 9 games the average winning margin for either side is 6 points an that is what we should expect tonight also,Games in Sydney and the Maroons have won 2 of the last 5 both games were won by4 and 2 points, the losses were by 8,1 and 10 points and that is what we should expect again tonight, the Maroons have the better side but the Blues have the better coach,at this level it really does come down to which side can get the best out of themselves and for me that will be the Maroons, they have the better play makers and they have the more proven performers across the park,I am expecting the Blues to keep this game tight and they should be able to also, but I am expecting one of Queenslands big guns to come up with that game defining play when it matters the most and they will win it again this year..Final Score...NSW 8 - Queensland 13...Good Luck
