Believe it or not, I'm going to bet on the Serbian tennis hope again. Yesterday he definitely cost us lots of nerves, but at the end it paid off. And my philosophy is that when you win you should never back down. Well, Vic really made jokes with us. He could've easily lost the match in which he was clearly the better rival, primarily due to a big insecurity in his game followed by the lack of self-onfidence and the inexperience he still possesses. He's offered much more than Ljubicic in that clash, and if the Croat managed to beat him just by using his serve, that would simply be a sin. Troicki had lots of break opportunities in all three sets, whereas Ljubicic, as I thought, only defended and waited for the opponent's errors. And he did wait long enough when, towards the end of the 1. set Troicki made a few big mistakes and allowed Ljubicic to take the 1:0 lead. However, Troicki then pulled himself together a little and probably said to himself: "I can beat this grandpa" to go on and win the next two sets somehow, opening the gates of the 1/4 finals and setting up a duel with another tennis veteran.
So, a very similar type of player as Ljubicic will await Troicki today - and that will be Guillermo Cañas. The Argentinean is, as most of his fellow countrymen, a clay court specialist. Match against the Indian Bopanna, an ok doubles but just horrible singles player, was his first match on grass this year. In his long career, Cañas never managed to record anything too significant playing on grass, except for maybe 4th round of Wimbledon back in 2001. but that was still when he was using dope so I wouldn't actually look at that result too seriously. In all other instances, it could be said that the grass season is the period when Guillermo has by far the poorest results. For example, he played at Hertogenbosch last year and lost in the 2nd round to 103th player in ranks at that time - Michael Berrer. I think he'll get whooped by another player that's ranked lower than him today as well.
Two of them never met on the court before. Troicki is still just a player that's trying to establish himself as a stable top 100 player on the pro tour whereas Cañas is a guy that's slowly going away from the tennis world. Viktor played quite bad yesterday so I;m sure he'll play only better today because there's still so much room for improvement in his game. He's shown how good of a server he is against Ljubicic, and I expect him to rip Cañas apart with those serves right from the start. Gullermo is not in any shape at all which losses to players like Fognini and Odesnik clearly show. To tell the truth, he is already pretty old for a tennis player so that's nothing surprising. I think Troicki will manage to get one of the best results of his career and get to the semi-finals of one Tier III tournament.
I won't jump on this with the highest stakes possible just due to the fact that Viktor still isn't used to making such good runs on the regular basis, so there is a small possibility for a blockade in his game only because of that.
Good luck to all.
