Netherlands vs Romania 20:45 (GMT+1) 17/06/2008
This is the last match of group C, and Romania has a good chance in to qualifing for the next round.
The Netherlands are alreay trough to the next round in pole position, thanks to their impressive wins against France and Italy. They played very offensive and also had lady luck on their side. Both of these matches were similliar to eachother. Holland scored an early goal, and counterattacked to crush the opponent. So they where both situations where Holland's tactic worked out, only cause the opposite side forgot to make their chances and leave the Dutch to much space for perfect counterattacks. If for instance France played conservative from start they would have made more chance IMO. The Dutch will rest 9 key players in this match. They will start with what you say a B-Team. However judging by the line-up I don't think its really a B-team. Cause those names are equally impressive.> Van der Sar; Melchiot, Heitinga, Bouma, De Cler; Engelaar, De Zeeuw; Van Persie, Afellay, Robben; Huntelaar.
Romania played very impressive sofar they collected 2 points of 2 draws vs the two WC finalists. And in both of those matches they where equally strong. We saw a well organised and controlled Romania whit strong striking power upfront in the name of Adrian Mutu. This guy is in form, and is probably the most motivated player, after his penalty miss in Italy match. The Romanian style of play has the most chance in winning from the Dutch. You don't play all offensive against this Holland, wich is what France and Italy did after they conceded so early. I think Romania will not make the same mistake here.
The Romanians were in the same qualifiying group as Holland. They drawd them 0-0 and won in Romania 1-0. In those matches the more dangerous player's for Holland were Sneijder and Van der Vaart. Butt they won't start in the line-up. Romania is perhaps under more pressure, butt I think they can handle this pressure. The Romanians will play with fire, that is for sure. There are to many rumours going around about Holland's motivation in this match. Van Basten helping Donadoni etc. I don't take Holland's motivation to this match as a big relevance. Judging by their style of play and seen Romania play so good thusfar. I think Romania has an edge.
