ATP - Novak Djokovic v Rafael Nadal
Djokovic will take this match very seriously. It's his chance to take revenge over the defeats on clay against Nadal. If I have to agree that Nalbandian was almost a walk over, the truth is that against Hewitt, Djokovic played extremely well. The Serbian has won the only Grand Slam outside clay this season and defeating Nadal would make a statement that he is better than Nadal outside clay and that getting to the Top 2 will happen sooner or later. He has won 8 of his last 9 finals, which shows how comfortable he is already playing in this high pressure situations and even though this will be his first final on grass, we all know he will have no problems to show up today, especially against one of his biggest rivals in the Tour.
Obviously Nadal will also show up and try to play his best, however on grass Djokovic has a big edge over Nadal: serve! Djokovic is no Karlovic to hit 35 aces against Nadal, but besides his ability to serve aces, his serve is also used to put his opponent on one side of the court and then hit a forehand shot to the other side of the court. If Nadal can still return those shots on clay, he can't do it on other surfaces. Also Djokovic is (just like Federer) a better returner on fast surfaces than on clay. It's basically a question of rhythm and Nadal will struggle on his serve a couple of times per set and that should be enough for Djokovic to break him.
The head to head of these two players is tied 3-3 in matches outside clay and one of the players today will take the lead. As much Nadal is a true warriors and takes all matches seriously, Djokovic really wants to take revenge from the Roland Garros and Hamburg defeats, which avoided him to get to the Top 2 in the rankings. Djokovic has more weapons on grass than Nadal (especially the serve) and the Serbian will get revenge over the Spanish player in here. It won't be a 6:3 6:2 affair like in Indian Wells, but Djokovic will get his job done. Take Djokovic minus the games in here. Regular Play.
