WTA - Yanina Wickmayer v Bethanie Mattek
Wickmayer is just 18 years old, but she is already billed to be the new big player of Belgium. Her game is completely suited for fast surfaces, as she has a big serve (won 65%, 76%, 79% and 83% of the points played on her first serve this week) and her powerful strokes, which can easily put her in position of attacking the second serves of her opponents. She is doing very well on grass, as she reached the final of Surbiton last week and now this week she is in the semi finals after defeating players like Michaella Krajicek and Casey Dellacqua, two Top 50 players and known for being very good on grass.
Mattek has talent too, but she is more inconsistent and even though she has been looking impressive, her results after a deep look aren't that phenomenal. Gajdosova is out of the Top 150. Rezai has no game for grass. Tanasugarn was tired and retired last week in Surbiton. And Vaidisova is in a tremendous slump, having lost 7 of her last 9 matches. Both Mattek and Wickmayer has gotten some confidence after their wins, but don't forget Mattek was just 3-6 on grass since 2006 before this tournament. Wickmayer has defeated Mattek in straight sets last month (on clay, her worst surface) and she has just too much power for Mattek to handle. The Belgian has also a tremendous fighting spirit, while Mattek isn't exactly a good player on close matches. Take the most talented Wickmayer to win in here. Regular Play.
