ATP - Juan Monaco v Tommy Robredo
Monaco is becoming a regular on the later stages of the clay optionals, as he has won three of them in 2007 and he has already reached two finals this season, having a great chance to reach the third one today. The Argentinian clearly didn't like the humiliation he suffered at the hands of Soderling in the first round of the French Open and he looks to be on a mission this week to show that he is way better than he showed in Paris. He is yet to drop a set and after three matches he should be confident on his game again.
Robredo is clearly having his worst season in years. The Spanish player has just one semi-final this season and his clay record of 2-6 against Top 30 players this season show that even though he can still beat weak players (18-6 on clay this season), he just can't beat the really good ones. That's why we can't be surprised of watching losing 6:0 6:1 against Nalbandian in Monte Carlo or by 6:3 6:2 6:1 against Stepanek in Roland Garros. Robredo is still a very good clay courter, but his defensive baseline game isn't as good as it once was (completely lack of errors, very good movement on court, etc...). Robredo struggled to pass Hernandez (4:6 6:2 6:2) and Odesnik (was trailing 2:4, before the American got injured and retired while being down by 6:4 1:1) and he hasn't shown the quality this season to beat a motivated Monaco, who is now a better clay courter than him. Take Monaco to win. Regular Play.
